About this site.
Mission
This site exists to give people a calmer, more precise account of body composition: what it is, how it is measured, what the numbers actually mean, and where the science is still unresolved. Education comes first. Evidence comes first. No claim here is made without a source, and where the evidence is genuinely uncertain, that uncertainty is named rather than smoothed over. This site is independent and carries no advertising, sponsorships, or affiliate arrangements. Nothing on these pages constitutes medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. It is a reference resource, written for adults who want to understand the science before or alongside a conversation with their own clinician.
Editorial independence
This site is not sponsored. No device manufacturer, no clinic other than the author's own, no supplement company, and no hosting provider has any editorial input into what appears here.
No advertising is displayed. No affiliate links are used at launch. If either of those things ever changes, the change will be disclosed prominently on this page and on the Editorial Independence page, with a date and a plain-language explanation of what changed and why.
Hummel Medical, the author's clinic, is listed first in the provider directory. That placement is disclosed openly, not buried. Nowhere else on the site does Hummel Medical receive editorial preference over other providers.
If a research finding is inconvenient for a measurement method that Hummel Medical happens to use, it is still reported. The Research page is an evidence synthesis. It is not a marketing page for any device or any clinic.
For the full statement of editorial policy, including the process for accepting corrections from readers and researchers, see the Editorial Independence page.
Who writes this site
"I am Michael Hummel. I am a naturopathic physician in Ashland, Oregon, and the owner of Hummel Medical. I built this site because the patients who walk through my door deserve a calmer, more precise explanation of body composition than the gym-adjacent marketing they usually find online. What you read here is the same reasoning I would use in an exam room... with citations attached so you can read further if you want to."
